Gardening and dreaming of an inspiring oasis

It’s taking a long time this year, but slowly the last of the snow is melting away and life is returning. Last weekend I spent the entire Saturday outside, working in the sun. Raking, cleaning up debris and preparing some spots where flowers will be planted. Finn and Luci was with us of course, enjoying the sun, munching on grass or chasing flies. It brought me a lot of joy, and in the evening my body was incredibly tired, with that good feeling in my muscles that I had used my body. I love it!

I have to say, even though I love our house, the location has not felt great. I’ve worried I have made a big mistake. But as I spend more time here at the back, I feel confident I can make it an oasis for me to charge up with energy, feel inspired and where I feel privacy and like I am isolated from our neighbours. It will require work, but I am excited for it and to learn about gardening!

Right now it’s just a lawn and there’s nothing I hate more. I cannot wait until it’s lush and full of life, with loads of flowers for the pollinatiors, herbs for me to use in the kitchen, areas to hang out in together, a fire pit and outdoor kitchen etc. My dreams are plentiful, and so are my pins saved on Pinterest hah! I know very little so far, but I am devouring garden shows and books. If you have any recommendations for YouTube channels or blogs around slow living, homesteading, gardening (for function and food more than pretty award winning gardens), please do share!

On Monday there was sadly a bit of frost out, and my heart sank… It’s colder again this week and spring has been delayed. But, there where also thousands of shimmering droplets clinging to the bushes in our backyard. So after a quick cup of morning coffee I took my camera and went outside. I honestly sat down by this one bush for almost an hour, and as a result I have all these new photos that I absolutely love. Three of them even made their way to my webbshop available as prints.

It served as a good reminder that we don’t have to travel far or make it a big deal to head outside for photographs, magic is all around us, we just need to be attentive and aware of our surroundings. If you haven’t done so already, I recommend joining the newsletter series I made together with OM System, where you get to follow me along my path and learn more about the art of seeing within photography. A topic I definitely also plan on exploring more in my own channels soon.

  1. My favourite for vegetables is Charles Dowding he has a YouTube channel specialising in no dig gardening, with Charles help I converted the four acre vegetable garden at work into no dig and the results have been superb.
