What I want to have close to my body
My days are long and quiet now that Dan is back at work. I am home alone and this week I feel low on energy. The weather, with its constant mix of snow and rain, makes me tired. I am also on my period, and my body feels off, my skin sensitive. It’s like my body is not fully mine. For my female readers: Do you ever feel that way? Thus, this week is all about taking care of myself a little extra. It’s about warmth & comfort. Merino wool is exactly what I want close to my body right now.
What we choose to wear is so important. I am not talking about looks now, I am talking about how it feels. Because our clothes rest against our skin, our biggest organ. How it was produced has an affect on us, the environment and the people producing our clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I care about how I look as well. But I don’t want to look good at the cost of discomfort or unsustainable production. Luckily, both can be achieved if we look beyond fast fashion.
this post is a paid collaboration with Dilling

So when Dilling reached out and wanted to work with me, it was a given yes. They’re a Danish company that produces base layers and underwear in organic merino wool and cotton, and the family has done so for generations (since 1916). The wool is sustainably produced in Patagonia, and the fabric is cut and sewn in Lithuania. Most of their products are then dyed and treated in Denmark, in their own Nordic Swan Ecolabelled dye house. They are very honest and open with how their production is run, and you can read more about their materials and sustainability on their website:

I decided to get a base layer set in their hazelnut color and I am in love! It’s very warm, and also incredibly soft and comfortable against my skin. There is no better feeling that knowing that what you wear close to your body is well produced, and as kind on the environment as it is on your skin! This set has been lovely to wear while working from home and feeling a bit off.
Luci also took a liking to it as we had a nap yesterday and she fell asleep snuggled up on my stomach. She never does that.

But, let’s also talk about looks. Because even though we shouldn’t, we do care. I know I do. For me it’s a nice bonus that this set is quite stylish as well, which makes it versatile. Minimalistic with a perfect, slim fit (I went with a size 36). The color is great and I like the ribbed pattern a lot. I can lounge around in it at home, wear it under outdoor gear when I head out into the forest but also easily dress it up.
I especially love the top and will wear it a lot. If I have friends coming over I just throw a kimono or long cardigan over. If I am going to a meeting or the pub I’ll tuck the sweater in a pair of high waist pants or skirt and put on a necklace. Done!

Care for what matters
When you’ve invested in high quality items, it’s important to give them proper care to ensure they last a long time. Both for your wallet and the environments sake. With a material like wool, you really don’t have to wash it as often as you might think. I air it outside and spot wash if needed. When it is finally time to wash it, I make sure to use the wool setting on the washing machine paired with a laundry detergent made specifically for wool.
Back in the day it was common knowledge how to care for our things in order to make it last. Sadly that knowledge has been lost. With fast fashion we have not needed it. It’s cheaper and easier to just get new things when something breaks. But we are increasingly becoming more aware again, of our impact on nature and what materials do to our skin. On top of that we are in a financial pickle right now, and all of us are learning more about different ways to save money in our day to day lives. Caring for what we have so that it does not have to be replaced plays a huge part in that.
Dilling sells their own wool wash and the packaging of your clothes come with good care instructions as well. I really enjoy seeing that they are helping to educate their consumers with how to care for their products.
